Day 186
May 8, 2020
These days I spend quite a bit of time walking around the North of Montana side of the neighborhood. Invariably I find some new thing I never noticed before. Be it plastic dog sculptures, metal dinosaur sculptures, beautiful flowers, or like today, a carved stone planter. Some things can take me to far away places. This one made me feel as if I were in some Tuscan vineyard, warm sunlight fading in the distance behind lush, green hills. A glass of delicious Pinot Noir and a platter of cheese, olives, and prosciutto at the ready.
With the trails and beaches reopening I have been considering where I would go first. When the time is right, of course. Clearly it will be a solo road trip. I was thinking maybe Cambria. Not too far. Overnight stay at an Air B&B/vacation home rental and back home the next. Or maybe a couple of days in Big Bear. I know a guy that has a cabin he is now able to do short term rentals on again. It’d be nice to contribute to his small business in that way. Not to mention the level of trust that knowing him personally would provide; that the space would have been sanitized before my arrival. So much to consider. But mainly, what will travel look like when we are able to do so? And how long will it take for that to resume some semblance of what it was like just a few months ago? But hopefully with a more sustainable approach.
