Day 224
June 15, 2020
Today I took a walk to the Third Street Promenade to see how things were evolving since the shut down, protests, looting, and the hurried reopening of just about everything. The Promenade itself seemed practically untouched by the events of the last three months. Since I arrived shortly before 11 AM, it was very quiet and workers were performing their daily pre opening routines. The majority of the stores are open for business once again. A couple were still boarded up, but for the most part it looked like any other morning just before opening hours. The mall was pretty much the same, stores getting ready to open for the day but, otherwise, quiet and uneventful.
Fourth Street, which seems to have suffered much more damage, is still boarded up. And those boards have become a canvas for artists to express support of the Black Lives Matter movement. So many beautiful messages have gone up, it was difficult to select an image for today’s post. I settled on this one because it feels that it truly encapsulates the turmoil this year has wrought on our world, but remains hopeful. While it is difficult to remain hopeful during these strange days, I feel we must so we can come out improved as a species on the other side of this collective experience.
