Day 313
September 12, 2020
What a difference a week makes. Last Saturday it was sunny skies and hot temperatures that drove me to spend the day indoors. Today temperatures are much lower but only because of the thick smoke that is quite literally blocking out the sun. We now have fires burning across most of California and Oregon. And while the air quality is bad here, it’s nowhere near as bad as it is in places like San Francisco. The other thing is the Bobcat Fire is getting too close to Mt. Wilson for comfort. Mt. Wilson houses eighteen telescopes, at least two of which are historically important. Hubble used one of them to prove the universe is still expanding. Also in the area, and also in danger, are several television and radio transmitters that if damaged could pose severe communication issues to all of Southern California. It’s all feeling quite apocalyptic. This year is seriously testing everyone, in every way.
