Day 47
December 21, 2019
Four hundred million years ago, this area was a coral reef. Fast forward to the 19th century when it became a quarry that remained operational until 1970. After the closure of Stearns Quarry, the area was used as a landfill for “clean” construction debris. In 2009 Palmisano Park was opened to meet the need for green spaces in the neighborhood. Today the twenty six acre park houses wetlands that drain into the fishing pond, several paths for walking and running, an athletic field, bird watching, and amazing views of the skyline. It is an environmentally-sustainable green space for the people of Bridgeport to enjoy.
