Day 103
February 15, 2020
The Los Angeles California Temple in Westwood is the second largest of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was completed in 1956. The Modernist structure, designed by Edward O. Anderson, sits atop a hill on Santa Monica Boulevard. The quartz and cement mixture of the facade makes it stand out even more so. It really is quite beautiful. At the very top of the central tower is a sixteen foot statue of the Angel Moroni. This angel, it is said, is the guardian of the Golden Plates, the source material for the Book of Mormon. The statue on this temple originally faced southeast, as does the building. However, at the request of David O. McKay, the ninth president of the Church, it was repositioned to face due east.
