Day 207
May 29, 2020
Bluffs Creek Trail is a very easy nature walk, the elevation gain is only 118 feet over 3.8 miles out and back. There is a creek and there are tons of flowers, butterflies, ducks, and native foliage to see. On this cloudy, almost misty, day we encountered some folks enjoying the variety of birds that call this area home. We even spotted a Snowy Egret! The trail is part of the Ballona wetlands restoration project and so it is protected. It is situated just below the LMU campus, hence the bell tower.
The Sacred Heart Chapel and the Regents Bell Tower were built in the early 1950’s as part of the second construction phase of Loyola University of Los Angeles’ Westchester campus. Marymount College began its affiliation with Loyola University in 1963, and continued operating as two independent schools on the same campus for the next five years. In 1973 the two schools merged and became Loyola Marymount University, a Jesuit and a research university, the largest Catholic university in the West Coast.
