Day 283

August 13, 2020

August 13, 2020 Santa Monica, CA

I have been feeling I want more color in my little corner of the world and I found this beauty during my travels through the neighborhood. The Bromelia Guzmania, apparently, has roots tracing back to the Cretaceous era. It was a very important part of life for the original people of the Americas. The Aztec, Inca, and Maya used it in ceremonies, for making fiber, and as food. This extremely resilient plant is a survivor and it will need all those survival skills living with me. Seems Bromelia only flower once so once this flower goes it will need to be replaced. I am thinking I want to get a purple one next. Or maybe the variegated version…
