Day 301
August 31, 2020
When I was trying to leave Corral Beach on Saturday there was an accident on the southbound lane of PCH. This meant if I wanted to go home I’d have to go up through the canyon to the Valley and back on the 101 to the 405 South – this is starting to sound like an episode of The Californians… Since I didn’t want to do that but also didn’t want to sit in traffic I opted to go north on PCH and explore a bit. Ended up finding the parking area for the Point Dume State Beach & Natural Preserve. Unfortunately there are only about five spots, and they were already take. So I decided to head home and come back another day. Apparently, driving twenty miles out of my way doesn’t seem so insane during a pandemic…
Well, funny enough, I had an appointment in Thousand Oaks this morning and figured this would be a great time to drive that extra twenty miles. So I hopped on Kanan Road through the canyon and I have no regrets. The Natural Preserve is lovely and has so many incredible views, my only disappointed is that I hadn’t been here before. This shot was taken from atop the bluffs facing south. Pirate’s Cove, as it is known, is only accessible from the southernmost point of Westward Beach at low tide. Lots of people come here for the rock climbing. There are, I believe, five routes to climb. Definitely coming back here on a day when I can make my way down below.
