Day 303

September 2, 2020

September 2, 2020 Saint Monica Catholic Church – Santa Monica, CA

I have not been able to find much information about the details of the main church entrance. At first I thought this might be Saint Monica holding a young Saint Augustin, her son. But looking into the words on the banner the child is holding, “Ego Sum Lux Mundi” which is Latin for “I am the light of the world”; words credited to Jesus, make me think this is actually the Virgin Mary and a young Jesus. Yes, I had to do quite a bit of Googling because, clearly, I am a very, very lapsed Catholic. However, I still find all the art in places of worship, regardless of denomination or a lack there of, quite beautiful.
