Day 50

December 24, 2019

December 24, 2019 Chicago, IL – Downtown

Christmas Eve errands took me back Downtown. This is the Adams side of the old Continental and Commercial Bank Building which today is home to the JW Marriott hotel (151 West Adams), after a $396M renovation. The original twenty-one story office building, officially located at 208 South LaSalle, was completed in 1914. Designed by Daniel H. Burnham in the Classical Revival style for what was then one of the largest banks in the country. It was the first building to take up an entire city block, bordered by LaSalle on the east, Wells on the west, Adams on the north, and Quincy on the south. In 2007, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. 208 South LaSalle is part of the LaSalle Canyon, or the West Loop-LaSalle Street Historic District which is beautifully capped off by the art-deco Chicago Board of Trade Building.
