Day 54

December 28, 2019

December 28, 2019 Chicago, IL – Near North Side

This exquisite stained glass window is one of ten on display for the Eternal Light: The Sacred Stained-Glass Windows of Louis Comfort Tiffany exhibit at the Driehaus Museum, on display through March 8, 2020. The collection takes a look at the design and production of these religious commissions. The Driehaus Museum also created an interactive tour of Tiffany’s other works throughout the city, Chicago’s Tiffany Trail. More information may be found here.

The museum is housed in the Nickerson Mansion and is, itself, a marvelous piece of Chicago history. Built in 1883, it was a technological achievement of its time. It underwent an extensive restoration in 2003 and opened to the public, as the Driehaus Museum, in 2008. Unfortunately not all the original furnishings were preserved but the first floor is beautifully curated and very close to the original. The second level is used as exhibit space. The Nickerson Mansion was added to the National Register of Historic places in 1976.
